Roberto Viola (civil servant)

Roberto Viola (* 1960 or 1961 in Rome ) is an Italian civil servant of the European Union and since 2015 Director General of the Directorate-General for Communication Networks, Content and Technologies (DG CONNECT) of the European Commission.

biography

Roberto Viola graduated from La Sapienza University in Rome from 1978 to 1983 with a degree in electronics engineering and from 1993 to 1996 earned a Masters in Business Administration from the Business School of the Open University in Milton Keynes .

From 1985 to 1999 he worked for the European Space Agency , then for the Italian regulatory authority AGCOM , first as head of department until 2005, then as its general director until 2012. He then switched to DG CONNECT, where he was Deputy General Director until 2015. He has headed the agency since 2015.
