Regulatory authority for communications

The Autorità per le garanzie nelle comunicazioni , also known as AGCOM , is the national supervisory authority for communications in Italy .

tasks

The agency performs regulatory and supervisory functions in the telecommunications , publishing, broadcasting and postal sectors . The authority's field of activity covers a very broad area. One of the main tasks is to protect the fundamental freedoms of consumers in the areas mentioned, other tasks include:

• Control and regulation of the telecommunications market
• Regulation and monitoring of the telephone and postal sectors
• Arbitration in the telephone sector through the Provincial Co.Re.Com. They can also issue arbitration awards and interim orders, which constitute a valid legal title .
• Ensure the par condicio rules during election campaigns
• Child and youth protection on radio and television

In the autonomous province of Bolzano - South Tyrol , the regional advisory board for communications takes on some of AGCOM's tasks. Appropriate framework agreements have been signed for this purpose.

Powers

The authority can carry out investigations and pass resolutions. These can lead to warnings, fines or other administrative sanctions. If the authority considers a situation to be urgent, it can take interim measures. The authority can conduct investigations through the Guardia di Finanza and Postpolizei ( Polizia postale e delle comunicazioni ). Appeals against measures taken by the authority can be lodged with the competent administrative court (TAR).
