Jana Kurucová (born October 12, 1982 in Tvarožná ) is a Slovak mezzo-soprano .

Career

Kurucová began studying music - sacred music, composition, organ, conducting and singing - at the Bellu Conservatory in Banská Bystrica when she was 14 years old . She continued her studies at the Music Academy in Graz and made her debut on the opera stage as Second Lady in the Magic Flute and Ramiro in La finta giardiniera .

In the 2005/2006 season she belonged to the opera studio of the Bavarian State Opera in Munich , then (until June 2009) she became a member of the ensemble of the Heidelberg Theater , where she made her debut in her first major roles - including Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro , Sesto in La clemenza di Tito , Idamante in Idomeneo and Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia .

From the 2009/2010 season she is part of the ensemble of the Deutsche Oper Berlin, where she has interpreted the following roles: Cherubino and Rosina, but also Fenena in Nabucco , Hansel in Hansel and Gretel , Mercedes in Carmen , Zerlina in Don Giovanni and Melisande in Pelléas et Mélisande

In the 2011/2012 season she was Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro at the Teatro de la Maestranza in Seville under the musical direction of Pedro Halffter, also at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe , and as Idamante in Idomeneo at the National Theater in Prague .

In the 2012/2013 season she sang Maffio Orsini in Lucrezia Borgia for the first time at the Deutsche Oper Berlin (alongside Edita Gruberova and Pavol Breslik ), as well as the roles of Fox in Janáček's Schlauem Füchslein , Meg Page in Falstaff , Suzuki in Madame Butterfly and Zerlina in Don Giovanni as a guest at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari

In the 2013/14 season she also made her debut at the Peking Opera as Cherubino, as well as her debut as Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and at the Oslo Opera .

In June 2014 she made her role debut as Romeo in Bellini's I Capuleti ei Montecchi at the Dortmund Sound Festival. She also made her debut at the Semperoper Dresden as Rosina in Il barbiere di Siviglia .

In addition to her engagements at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, she sang the role of Elisabetta in Maria Stuarda (in Ostrau) for the first time in the 2014/2015 season , as well as the role of Carmen in Prague and again Donna Elvira in Don Giovanni in Prague and Bratislava.

In 2016 she made her debut as Sesto in Giulio Cesare at the Semperoper Dresden and appeared for the first time in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden as Marta in Boitos Faust .

At the beginning of 2017 he made a new debut as Dorabella in Così fan tutte at the Deutsche Oper Berlin, as well as a house debut in New National Theater in Tokyo as Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro.

In May 2017 she sang the role of Isolier ( Le comte Ory ) alongside Lawrence Brownlee and Jessica Pratt at the Klangvokal music festival in Dortmund . In September 2017 she sang with Kristīne Opolais , Richard Samek and René Pape Dvořák's Stabat Mater at the Dvořákova Praha Festival .

Until the end of the year she sang Rosina ( Il barbiere di Siviglia ) at the Semperoper Dresden and in Bratislava and the role of Elisabetta ( Maria Stuarda ) in Banská Bystrica . She appears at the Svátky hudby v Praze festival in the Rudolfinum Hall in Prague and at the Christmas concert in the Reduta Filharmonie in Bratislava.

In May 2018, she had the role of Martha (Boito's Mefistofele ) on the side of Joseph Calleja and Erwin Schrott transferred to the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, and she sang the role of Elisabetta in Donizetti's Maria Stuarda at the side of Diana Damrau and Javier Camarena to at the Deutsche Oper Berlin and also made her role debut as Siebel (Gounod's Faust ) at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

In autumn 2018, the role debuts Prinz Orlovsky ( Die Fledermaus ) and Nicklausse ( Hoffmann's Tales ) followed at the Deutsche Oper Berlin as well as the role of Carmen at the National Theater in Prague.
