Company history and products

Alfred Lüling (1899–1960) founded the Burg-Wächter company in 1920

The beginnings (1920 to 1961)

The company was founded on November 25, 1920 by Alfred Lüling (November 2, 1899 to June 22, 1960) and his uncle Ferdinand Buhl as a distributor for the then leading lock manufacturer Burg. The trading company was named F.Buhl & Co. The Burg company belonged to Alfred Lüling's father, Friedrich Wilhelm Lüling. From 1923 the exclusive right of sale of the castle padlocks for Germany was transferred to F.Buhl & Co.

After the company initially expanded, it had to cut back its businesses during the Second World War and in some cases cease it altogether. Since all production facilities were retained, the company was able to fully resume operations after the end of the war. The first innovations were brought onto the market in 1949 with a bracket-free lock and armored bolt . In 1950 the company's founder's sons - Alfred Jr., Adalbert and Friedhelm Lüling - entered the business. In that year the company was renamed and became Burg-Wächter.

Expansions and innovations (1962 to 1992)

In 1962 the production of cylinder padlocks began in Wetter-Volmarstein . In addition to the production facility at the headquarters, the company built another production facility in Meinerzhagen-Valbert in 1964 , which has been expanded several times to this day. Numerous innovations followed. 1966 Burg-Wächter brought cash boxes on the market, 1971, wall safes and safes newly added to the program.

The first mailboxes were delivered in the fourth quarter of 1975 . In 1982 the portfolio was expanded to include plastic mailboxes. In 1984 the "Secutronic" combination lock was introduced for safes with 111 million possible combinations. In 1990 the “Royal” safe series came onto the market. With this, Burg-Wächter became a member of the “Professional Association for Safes and Safe Systems” in the VDMA and in the ECB • S “European Certification Board - Security Systems” for safes and safe locks.

Furthermore, in 2012 Burg-Wächter acquired the video security company Santec from Ahrensburg and the French BALSA group. The sales office in France is in Mommenheim . The British Sterling Group was added in 2013.
