Roberts Bank Superport
The Roberts Bank Superport , often referred to as Deltaport , is a container and coal handling terminal near Delta in the Canadian province of British Columbia . It is located about 40 km south of Vancouver on the Strait of Georgia , not far from the border with the USA . The only thing left between the Roberts Bank Superport and the US border is the Tsawwassen Ferry Terminal , from which the BC Ferries ferries operate. The 113 hectare harbor island and its access roads touch the reserve of the Tsawwassen Indians established in 1878.
The facility forms part of the port of Vancouver . It is located at the end of a 5 km long dam on an artificially raised island and currently consists of two operating areas. The port was established in 1968 for the export of coal ( Westshore Terminals ) and has since been opened up by a freight rail line of the Canadian National Railway . It is now also served by the Canadian Pacific Railway and the BNSF Railway . In 1997 a handling facility for containers was added ( Deltaport container facility ).
