Roca Negra ( Spanish for Black Rock ) is a prominent and 40 m high rocky promontory in the northeast of Nelson Island in the archipelago of the South Shetland Islands . It rises about 1.5 km southwest of Rip Point on the east bank of Edgell Bay .
Chilean scientists named it descriptively.
