The Rock and Rail LLC ( AAR reporting mark: RRRR), formerly Rock and Rail Inc., is a Local Railroad - Railway Company in the US -Bundesstaat Colorado . With 4 employees, the company operates the 18.9 kilometer route from Parkdale (Colorado) to Cañon City through the Royal Gorge . In addition, the company owns route rights on the routes of the BNSF and the UP from Cañon City to Pueblo and a loading station at Kelker near Colorado Springs . The Cañon City-based company has a total of 95 kilometers of route rights.

As part of the merger of the Union Pacific Railroad with the Southern Pacific Transportation , the UP closed the route over the Tennessee Pass through the River Gorge, as the connection over the Moffat Route and the Dotsero Cutoff was more economical. In July 1998 the Royal Gorge Express acquired the route from Canon City to Milepost 171.90 near Parkdale. Royal Gorge Express was founded as a joint venture between Rock and Rail Inc. and the Canon City Royal Gorge Railroad tourist railway . Rock and Rail Inc., owned by William H. Fehr and Mitch Albert, was able to secure the transport of the aggregates from the quarry of Agile Stone Systems Inc., today Front Range Aggregates, of the same owners at Parkdale. In April 1999, the company acquired rights to use the route for the Canon City – Pueblo section from BNSF, and in June 1999 a connection to a loading station at Kelker on the BNSF Railway from Colorado Springs to Pueblo.

Vehicle fleet

The vehicle fleet consists of five locomotives from Electro Motive Division of the series GP 40-2 (No. 201), GP 30 (No. 301), GP 40 (No. 401), GP 39-2 (No. 2372) and GP 38 (No. 2795). The latter two locomotives are rented.
