Rockair

Rockair was designed and built for aircraft take-off sounding rocket , which the Office of Naval Research and the University of Maryland has been developed. The missile was tested in 1955. It had a peak height of 50 km, a starting thrust of 3.00 kN , a diameter of 0.07 m and a length of 1.20 m. With the missile type a total of five take-off attempts by a McDonnell F2H Banshee aircraft of the Navy off Wallops Island were made in 1955 , only one of them was successful. The tests were based on the Naval Aviation Ordnance Test Station (NAOTS) in Chincoteague , Virginia .
