Coordinates: 33 ° 57 '  S , 151 ° 8'  O Rockdale City is a Local Government Area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Rockdale is part of the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 28.2 km² and has about 109,000 inhabitants.

Rockdale is located on the western edge of Botany Bay about 9 to 16 km southwest of Sydney city center. The area includes 31 neighborhoods: Arncliffe, Arncliffe West, Banksia, Bardwell Park, Bardwell Valley, Bexley, Bexley South, Bexley West, Brighton, Brighton Le Sands, Brighton North, Dolls Point, Kogarah West, Kyeemagh, Monterey, Ramsgate Beach, Rockdale , Sandringham, Sydney International Airport, Turrella, Wolli Creek and parts of Allawah, Beverly Hills, Bexley North, Carlton, Hurstville, Kingsgrove, Kogarah , Kogarah South, Ramsgate and Sans Souci. The council's headquarters are in Rockdale, in the center of the LGA.

Rockdale City Council has 15 members elected by residents of the five wards (three each from First, Second, Third, Fourth and Fifth Ward). These five districts are defined independently of the localities. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
