Coordinates: 33 ° 49 ′ S , 151 ° 6 ′ E Ryde City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . Ryde belongs to the metropolis of Sydney , the capital of New South Wales. The area is 40.5 km² and has about 116,000 inhabitants.
Ryde is located on the north side at the end of the harbor about 9 km from the city center. The area includes 30 neighborhoods: Adwill Place, Blenheim Road, Denistone, Denistone East, Denistone Heights, Denistone West, Faraday Park, Fullers Bridge, Glades Bay, Macquarie Center, Macquarie Park, Macquarie University, Marsfield, Meadowbank , Monash Park, Putney, Ryde , East Ryde , North Ryde , Top Ryde, West Ryde , Sagar Place, Tennyson, Tennyson Point and parts of Chatswood West, Eastwood, Eastwood Heights, Epping, Gladesville and Melrose Park. The council's administrative headquarters are in the Ryde district in the south of the LGA.

The Ryde City Council has twelve members elected by the residents of the three wards (four each from the East, West and Central Ward). These three districts are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
