Rockenfeld is a desert in the Neuwied district of Feldkirchen . The names Rockenfeller and Rockefeller are derived from Rockenfeld .

geography

The Rockenfeld desert lies at 330  m above sea level. NN on a ridge rising from north to south between the valleys of the Rockenfelder Bach in the west and a tributary of the Nonnenbach in the east. The forest borders Wied to the east . The only road connection is the district road 1 leading down to Rheinbrohl over a length of eight kilometers into the Rhine Valley .

history

The village was first mentioned in 1280 as Rukenvelt . Until 1693 it belonged to Gönnersdorf . In 1846 there were 11 families living in the village, from 1885 an official school had been established, which was closed again in 1935.

Immediately after World War II, 50 people were still living in Rockenfeld. Due to constant migration, the municipal council decided in 1965 to dissolve the municipality. In 1969 the abandoned houses and courtyards were burned down by the fire brigade. In 1995 the last house was demolished. Today Rockenfeld is a desolation with a memorial from 1962/63 and a memorial stone as the only remains.
