Roderich von Erckert , also R. von Erkert or R. d'Erkert (* December 15, 1821 in Kulm , † December 12, 1900 in Berlin ) was a German ethnographer , cartographer and officer in Russian service.

Life

Erkert was a guard officer and a member of the Russian Geographical Society. He researched the culture and languages ​​of the ethnic groups of Russia and the Caucasus and published several scientific papers and travelogues about it.

Erkert also published several maps, including a. six maps over an area between the Warta and the Dniepr and thus gave an overview of the Polish nationalities of the individual parts of the country in Russia. Later he turned to the peoples and languages ​​of the Caucasus. Here he explored u. a. the Georgian Army Road . Most recently he devoted himself to Germanic research, which was so popular in the 19th century .
