The Rodewisch Schachmiezen are a women's chess club from Rodewisch in Saxony . Founded in 1957, the club has played in the women's Bundesliga since 1993 . The chess chicks were three times German runner-up in team chess .

history

The women's grandmaster Regina Theissl-Pokorná has been playing for the chess chicks since 2000/2001 , including in the 2011/12 season

Founded in 1957 as a student club under the name FSG Wissenschaft Roda , from September 1990 the club was called Rodewischer Schachmiezen der FSG Wissenschaft . Since November 22, 1992, they have had the current name Rodewischer Schachmiezen and contest their competitions under the slogan: Purr tenderly with friends - show your opponent your claws . Until 1984 the chess played chess as a student sport, from 1984 to 1989 they played in the GDR regional league and from 1989 to 1991 in the GDR upper league.

After reunification , the players qualified for the newly created 2nd Bundesliga . In the first season 1991/1992 they secured relegation only in the last game. In 1993 they rose to the highest league, the 1991 formed Chess Bundesliga . Even in the first season in the first division, the relegation of the club hung by a thread. In the decisive game against SC Bessenbach , Bessenbach had to win, the Rodewisch chess chessmen achieved a 3: 3. In the last game the Kitties secured the 3: 3 in a dramatic fight and took 9th place, while SC Bessenbach was relegated in tenth place. The 1994/1995 season, however, ended the club as runner-up. Since the promotion to the first division in 1993, the Rodewian chess chicks have been an integral part of the women's national chess league.

Tournament orientations and team squads

The club hosted numerous German championships, including the Open German Individual Championship in 2000 with a record number of participants. This championship formed a high point in the club's history with the Rodewischer double success by Tatjana Wassylewytsch and Inna Janowskaja .

The 14-man team squad for the 2010/11 season , which the chess chicks finished in 5th place, consisted of one international female champion (IM), four women's grandmasters (WGM), two international women's champions (WIM) and two FIDE champions of women (WFM). These included Regina Pokorná , Anna Rudolf and Júlia Kočetková (all three WGM). The highest Elo number was the international champion Tatjana Wassylewytsch with 2417. The club used a total of eight foreign players.
