Rodger Kamenetz

Rodger Kamenetz (* 1950 in Baltimore ) is an American poet and author.

Kamenetz studied at Yale University , Stanford University and Johns Hopkins University . He lives in New Orleans and is retired after serving as Professor of English and Religious Studies at Louisiana State University . He was also the Erich and Lea Sternberg Honors Professor.

He is known as the author of the book The Jew in the Lotus and dealt with the interreligious dialogue between Judaism and Tibetan Buddhism. The book, published in 1994, is considered a veritable manifesto of Buddhists of Jewish faith in America. Rodger Kamenetz coined the expression "Jubus" as an expression of this twofold identity.

In 1996, after a meeting with the Dalai Lama in Dharamsala in the Interfaith Action Network, he campaigned for the liberation of the Panchen Lama .

He has written volumes of poetry such as The Lowercase Jew (2003) and The Missing Jew: New and Selected Poems (1991). Kamenetz is married to the writer Moira Crone . Her daughter Anya Kamenetz is also a writer.
