Rodolfo Mederos (born March 25, 1940 in Buenos Aires ) is an Argentine bandoneon player , conductor , lecturer and composer in the tradition of Astor Piazzolla's Tango Nuevo .

Life

Mederos was born in the "Constitución" district and grew up in Entre Ríos . He studied biology at the Universidad Nacional de Córdoba . At the age of twenty he founded the Octeto Guardia Nueva . With this formation he had the opportunity to appear as an opening act at a concert by Piazzolla , whereupon he decided to devote himself entirely to music. In 1966 his first album Buenos Aires ... al Rojo! . After a stay in Paris from 1967 he was a member of the orchestra of Osvaldo Pugliese from 1969 to 1974 , where he formed the bandoneon group with Arturo Penón , Daniel Binelli and Juan José Mosalini .

He then founded the group Generación Cero , with whom he released two albums from 1976-77, which were followed by three solo albums (1978, 1983 and 1984). In 1984 Mederos founded the music school La Escuela de Música Popular in Avellaneda, where he devoted himself increasingly to teaching. Nevertheless, other albums of his appeared, and in 2000 Eterno Buenos Aires was nominated for the Latin Grammy in the category Best Tango Album and won the Premio Predel . He won further nominations for the Latin Grammy in 2001 with Tangos (with Nicolás Brizuela ) and in 2007 with Comunidad . In addition, Mederos has also composed and played numerous film scores since the 1980s.
