Tristán Bauer (born June 22, 1959 in Mar del Plata , Argentina ) is an Argentine film director , screenwriter, cameraman and non-party politician. He has been Minister of Culture in the Fernández cabinet since December 10, 2019 .

Bauer studied directing and then worked as a cameraman for numerous Argentine and Latin American film productions. From the early 1990s he directed and wrote the screenplay for several documentaries and won several awards with his first feature film, After the Storm . His documentaries mostly focus on literary personalities, including Cortázar , an award-winning portrait of the Argentine writer Julio Cortázar . His 1999 film The Books and the Night is about Jorge Luis Borges .

For his war drama Illuminated by Fire , Bauer received the Goya in the category “Best Foreign Film in Spanish Language” in 2006 and was able to prevail against Álvaro Buela , among others .
