Rodolfo Oroz

Rodolfo Oroz (born July 8, 1895 in Santiago de Chile , † April 13, 1997 ibid) was a Chilean Latinist, Romanist and Hispanist of Basque descent.

life and work

Rodolfo Oroz Scheibe studied at the University of Leipzig . From 1933 he worked at the University of Chile , first in the Pedagogical Institute, from 1944 in the Philological Institute. From 1959 to 1980 he was President of the Academia Chilena de la Lengua , which donated the Premio Doctor Rodolfo Oroz (for linguistic work), which is named after him.

Rodolfo Oroz was awarded the Premio Atenea in 1966 for La lengua castellana en Chile and the Premio Nacional de Literatura de Chile in 1978 .
