Francisco Rodríguez García (born March 8, 1934 in Barcelona ) is a former Spanish football player .

Career as a player

In his youth, Rodrí, who was active as a defender, first played for CD Condal , a club from Barcelona. From there he moved to FC Barcelona in 1955 . Since he did not get into the starting line-up right away, he was transferred back to CD Condal in the same year, where he stayed until 1958. In 1958 he moved back to Barça. In the meantime, a world-class team had developed around goalkeeper Antoni Ramallets , midfield strategist Luis Suárez , László Kubala and the two ex-Hungarians Sándor Kocsis and Zoltán Czibor in the attack, and Rodrí was just the right defender, as the team did not have the class in the defensive area like in the offensive department.

Rodrí played 83 games (0 goals) for Barcelona from 1958 to 1963. In 1963 he ended his career at the age of 29. Rodrí took part in the 1962 World Cup in Chile with the Spanish national soccer team. Claiming to be one of the favorites, the Spaniards were eliminated in the preliminary round after losing to Czechoslovakia and Brazil and only being able to win against Mexico . Rodrí played 4 games for Spain in his career in which he failed to score.

Career as a coach

After his active career, Rodrí became a coach. First he coached the youth of FC Barcelona from 1966-67, before coaching the club's amateurs from 1967 to 1969. In 1969 he was hired by Barça as a first-team coach, but lost his post after a year.

In the following years Rodrí worked as Rinus Michels' assistant at Barça.
