Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz (born September 9, 1972 in Monterrey ) is a Mexican lawyer and politician . From October 4, 2009 to October 3, 2015, he was governor of the state of Nuevo León and is a member of the Partido Revolucionario Institucional .

Life

Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz studied law at the Regiomontana University in Monterrey, where he obtained a master's degree in international corporate law. This was followed by a job in the public service. From 2006 to 2009 Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz was a Member of the Congress of the Union of Mexico and President of the Public Security Committee of the Mexican House of Representatives. On July 5, 2007 he was appointed governor of Nuevo Leon by Jose Gonzalez Natividad Paras as his successor. After the elections on July 5, 2009, Media de la Cruz was officially appointed governor of the state of Nuevo Leon on July 13, 2009. He officially took office on October 4, 2009.

Since the beginning of his tenure, crime and corruption have reached historic levels in the state. On August 28, 2011, more than a thousand people gathered in front of the presidential palace to call for Medina de la Cruz to resign. A few days earlier, at least 52 people had been killed in an attack on a casino in Monterrey . The background is the drug war in Mexico .

Rodrigo Medina de la Cruz is married and has three sons.
