A clearing knife is a passive attachment for excavators . It is used in rootstock clearing for the complete removal of tree stumps by removing the rootstock .

It can be used in difficult clearing areas, surrounded by stones and structures, as well as on relatively small excavators that cannot cut thick wood with a clamshell grab. Backhoe buckets are blunt and cannot cut through or tear off roots above a certain thickness.

history

The clearing knife is a patent from the arborist Hartmut Neidlein from 2008. It competes with stump cutters and clearing drills. According to his own statements, he developed the clearing knife to completely clear individual trees, even deep-rooted trees according to DIN 18320, even in built-up areas, in order not to give a breeding ground for wood- decomposing tree fungi and rot that could damage new planting. The functionality of the excavator is used, such as the working depth and the swivel block available on smaller excavators. According to the ATV DIN 18320 "Landscaping work" revised in 2015, clearing work defines that the root stock must be removed completely and 20 cm of the roots as well as the strong roots over 10 cm in diameter .

functionality

Eliminate by removing and scraping the tree stump / stump. The wood splits off along the natural grain. Removal of coarse and strong roots. The working radius is greatly expanded, which loosens the soil while preserving the topsoil for new planting.

Shape and size

Due to the forces acting on a clearing knife, higher quality steels are used for the manufacture of the welded structure. Clearing knives are available in different sizes for excavators up to around 30 tons.
