Roger Daniel (chess player)

Roger Daniel (born May 18, 1915 in Le Havre , † April 21, 1999 ibid) was a French chess player .

Daniel, who learned chess at the age of 13, made a name for himself at the regional level in the 1930s. In 1932 he won the club championship of the Cercle du Havre and in 1938 the Normandy championship. In the 1940s and early 1950s he achieved several top positions at the French level. He won the French championship in 1942 and narrowly missed the title in his runner-up championships in 1941, 1945, 1949 and 1951. Daniel also won the eighth French correspondence chess championship in 1941/42. In 1946 and 1947 he played in several friendship competitions in the French team.
