Roger III (Sicily)

Roger III (* 1175 ; † December 24, 1193 ) was the son and heir of King Tankred of Sicily .

His father arranged his marriage to Irene , the daughter of the Byzantine emperor Isaac II , in 1193 , and had his son crowned co-king in order to succeed him against the claims of Constance and Henry VI. secure. However, Roger died the following year, shortly before his father, who died on February 20, 1194. His younger brother Wilhelm III. ascended the throne under the reign of both mother, Sibylle von Acerra .

After Emperor Heinrich VI. had moved into Palermo on November 20, 1194 and deposed Wilhelm on December 25, Roger's widow married Heinrich's brother Philipp von Schwaben in 1197 .
