Roger Jacob Steiner

Roger Jacob Steiner (born March 27, 1924 in South Byron , Wisconsin, † November 2, 2012 in Lititz , Pennsylvania) was an American linguist, romance scholar and lexicographer.

life and work

Steiner, whose ancestors came from Switzerland, did military service and was a Methodist pastor for 15 years. As part of his Romance studies, he spent two years in Bordeaux. He received his doctorate from the University of Pennsylvania in 1964 with the work Two centuries of Spanish and English bilingual lexicography 1590-1800 (The Hague 1970) and taught for 33 years at the University of Delaware , most recently as Full Professor of Linguistics.
