The rye market in the Westphalian Münster is, together with the old fish market, one of the first and oldest markets in the city. It was built around the middle of the 10th century northeast of the Domburg around the St. Paulus Cathedral . It got its name because rye and other grains were mainly traded on this market. It was on an important trade route in the east-west direction to Holland and in the immediate vicinity of the important north-south connection from the Rhineland to the north with Friesland , Bremen and, later, Lübeck .

The Roggenmarkt is located north of the Prinzipalmarkt and runs approximately from the Lambertikirche in an arc in a westerly direction. The two markets flow smoothly into one another. Until 1907, the group of houses known as Drubbel lay in the middle of Marktstrasse .

On the Roggenmarkt, similar to the Prinzipalmarkt to the south, there was a development with historic merchants' houses, although this was not built until 1121. Like the Prinzipalmarkt, the Roggenmarkt was almost completely destroyed in the Second World War and was then largely rebuilt based on the original.
