The Rohrlake is a boggy brook in the Berlin Wuhlheide , which originally fed the now defunct lake in the Seepark on Liepnitzstraße. Within the Wuhlheide, the Rohrlake formed some smaller bodies of water, such as small lakes (including the bathing lake at the FEZ , which is now fed with groundwater) or in some places standing streams. The Hohe Wallgraben flowed through the Rohrlake .

History and description

The Wuhlheide waterworks , which went into operation in 1914 , lowered the groundwater level in the Wuhlheide to such an extent that the cane was mostly dry. During the construction of the Wuhlheide Park Railway, two bridges were built over the Rohrlake in the area of the depot and the depot. Over the years, however, they have become almost dry depressions. In the area around the waterworks, the creek is mostly drained. He used to feed a small swimming pond there, which was part of the Wuhlheide park .

On the southeastern site of the Karlshorst trotting track there is another water-bearing depression, which in the 2010s was fed solely by the excess water from the waterworks and by surface water. Plans for the renaturation of Rohrlake and Hohem Wallgraben were discussed in the 1990s, but have not yet been implemented (as of the end of 2017). In addition to the ecological and urban development aspects, the aim was also to drain the Wuhlheide. Founded in 1916 Kleingartenanlage stable meadow in Karlshorst is always at risk from groundwater. A citizens' initiative has been trying for a long time to restore the Rohrlake wetland at the trotting track. The course of the river is to be partially exposed again and reeds are to be planted. With the regulated runoff into the Spree , the disturbed water balance of the Wuhlheide could be improved.
