A Rokushakukama [ ɽo.kɯ.ɕa.kɯ.ka.ma ] ( Japanese六尺 鎌 literally: six-foot scythe ) is a Japanese Kobudō weapon, a variant of the Kama (sickle).

Appearance

It consists of a kama with a handle about 30 cm long, mounted on a five Shaku (150 cm) long . In addition to being able to use it as a cutting and cutting weapon, the sickle also served to draw the enemy towards him or to disarm him.

history

Like the other Kobudo weapons, this is also a tool or everyday object converted into a weapon . At the time of the Satsuma occupation, the usual weapons such as swords ( katana ) were banned in Okinawa . That is why the peasant population used their utensils as weapons. These could not be banned because they were economically indispensable for the occupiers (mostly for feeding the population).

Kata

In today's martial arts there are no longer any kata handed down with this weapon.
