Roland Härtel (born November 12, 1944 in Reinheim ) is a German politician ( SPD ).

Professional background

From 1965 to 1969 he studied economics at the universities of Mannheim , Berlin and Würzburg . First he worked for five years as a graduate economist in a management consultancy. From 1974 to 1979 he worked as a trainee lawyer, then as a teacher at the vocational school in Germersheim .

Political activity

Roland Härtel held several party offices for many years. He was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Speyer for more than 20 years. In addition, he was a member of the board of the SPD district of Palatinate and the state executive committee of the SPD Rhineland-Palatinate for many years.

In 1978 and 1979 he was a member of the Speyer city ​​council .

In 1979 he was elected to the Rhineland-Palatinate state parliament for the first time. Re-elections took place in 1983, 1987, 1991, 1996 and 2001. Initially, his involvement in the state parliament was in vocational training and cultural policy. From 1985, Härtel concentrated increasingly on economic, structural and media policy. From 1987 to 1991 he held the position of chairman of the state parliament's economy and transport committee. From 1987 to 1988 he was a member of the assembly of the state center for private broadcasters and from 1987 to 1991 a member of the broadcasting council of Südwestfunk. On May 23, 1991 Härtel was appointed State Secretary for the Environment Rhineland-Palatinate and on October 26, 1994 he was appointed State Secretary for the Environment and Forests Rhineland-Palatinate.

From May 18, 2001 to May 18, 2006 Härtel was State Secretary for Science, Further Education, Research and Culture. He has been a member of the Social Democratic Party of Germany since 1969.
