The Munich Fanny Mendelssohn Quartet , Renate Eggebrecht first violin , Mario Korunić second violin, Stefan Berg Viola , Friedemann Kupsa cello , was founded in 1989 on the occasion of the performance of the String Quartet in E flat major and the premiere of the Piano Quartet in A flat major by Fanny Mendelssohn on 6th March 1989 founded in the Gasteig Munich . The string quartet continued to advocate unknown music by female composers and can boast many world premieres including several works by Violeta Dinescu , Gloria Coates, Fukuo Yamagushi and Mayako Kubo (Reinbert Evers, guitar).

The four musicians recorded the chamber music of Fanny Mendelssohn (Stefan Mickisch, piano) and Ethel Smyth as world premiere recordings on CD. In 1997 the ensemble recorded Max Reger's piano chamber music , his piano quintet in C minor and his two piano quartets on two CDs ( Wolfram Lorenzen , piano).
