biography

The daughter of the musicologist, music pedagogue and painter Elfriede Eggebrecht (née Voß) and the teacher Werner Eggebrecht, cousin of the writer Axel Eggebrecht , grew up in Eutin / Schleswig-Holstein. She received her first musical education from her mother when she was 4 years old. At the age of 7 Renate Eggebrecht became a student of Hans Hilf, who himself had studied at the Leipzig Conservatory in Walther Davisson's master class . From the age of 12, she studied violin with Friedrich Wührer and piano with Wilhelm Rau at the Lübeck University of Music . She continued her education at the Munich Music Academy . Then she devoted herself to private studies with Wolfram König and attended master classes with Max Rostal and Seymion Snitkovsky, as well as chamber music courses with the La Salle Quartet.

In 1986 Renate Eggebrecht founded the Fanny Mendelssohn Quartet , with which she performed the string quartet in E flat major (1834) by Fanny Hensel née. Mendelssohn first presented in Munich and premiered the piano quartet in A flat major (1822) by this composer on March 6, 1988 in the Gasteig cultural center in Munich. The sheet music for these chamber music works was first published in 1988 by the Furore Verlag Kassel.

In 1991 the musician founded the music production Troubadisc together with the cellist Friedemann Kupsa as a label for classical music in order to publish unknown, forgotten music. For this label the violinist played the chamber music of Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn , Ethel Smyth , Germaine Tailleferre , Grażyna Bacewicz and other female composers as world premiere CD recordings. In 1993 she was made an honorary member of the Germaine Tailleferre Association, Paris.

In 1993, Renate Eggebrecht produced the entire song work of the French composer and teacher Nadia Boulanger as a CD for the first time, as did the instrumental and piano songs by Ethel Smyth in 1997. In addition to the chamber music of Fanny Hensel geb. Mendelssohn produced the musician in 2001 also her songs and in 1998 with the pianist Wolfram Lorenzen the piano cycle "The Year" in the fair copy (1842) of the composer as a CD world premiere.

In 1994/95 the violinist and her ensemble recorded the string quartets No. 1–8 by Darius Milhaud for the CD, as well as his works "Machines agricoles" op. 56 and "Catalog de Fleurs" op. 60. 1996 also appeared the CD recordings of the two great string quartets by Arthur Bliss with the Fanny Mendelssohn Quartet.

Together with the German pianist Wolfram Lorenzen, the violinist was able to present the CD edition 'Max Reger Piano Chamber Music' with 3 volumes in 1997. The musician then dedicated herself to recording the entire works for violin solo by Max Reger , which she was able to present for the first time in record history in 2003 as a production by the Troubadisc label. This 5-CD edition of Max Reger's complete works for violin solo, which ranges from op. 42 (1899), op. 91 (1906) to op.131a and posthumous works (1916), is a world premiere as a whole.

As a chamber musician, the artist continued to be committed to the discovery of valuable music by neglected composers. In 2000, together with the cellist Friedemann Kupsa, she published the CD world premiere recording of the Sonata for violin and violoncello (1947) by the Greek Schoenberg student Nikos Skalkottas and the Sonatina op. 324 by Darius Milhaud . With this musician, she presented the CD world premieres of the Duo-Sonata (1985) by the Romanian avant-garde composer Anatol Vieru and the “Strassenmusik N ° 16” op. 210 (2001) by the Greek composer Dimitri Nicolau. This work is dedicated to the Eggebrecht / Kupsa duo.

The chamber music experience with the music of the 20th century offered the musician Renate Eggebrecht a good prerequisite for dealing with the new expressive possibilities of the solo violin. The violinist and producer started the Edition VIOLIN SOLO in 2002 in order to make composing for the violin audible from the beginning of the 20th century until today. A series of works has emerged that extends from Max Reger's Chaconne op. 117 through Bach's Sei Solo to the present day: A compendium of violin literature.

Renate Eggebrecht's violin is a Stradivarius replica by Jean-Baptiste Vuillaume from 1858, her favorite bow is by Jules Fétique .
