Roland Hoffmann (baseball player)

Roland "Rolles" Hoffmann (born January 28, 1936 in Mannheim ) is a former German baseball player and coach. Hoffmann took part as a catcher in two world and eleven European championships. From 1982 to 1993 he was the coach of the German national baseball team .

Career

Roland Hoffmann came into contact with baseball through American occupation soldiers. From 1947 he began to play himself. Impressed by the games of the American soldiers' club Mannheim Tornados, he later founded the Mannheim Tornados together with other baseball enthusiasts . A special feature of Hoffmann's game was that as a switch hitter he could hit with both left and right.

Roland Hoffmann was inducted into the Hall of Fame of the German Baseball and Softball Association in 1994 . He is considered one of the most successful German national players. Hoffmann took part in two world and eleven European championships and won several German championships with the Mannheim Tornados.
