Josef Martin Gaßner (born May 19, 1966 in Landshut ) is a German astronomer , mathematician , physicist and non-fiction author .

Life

Josef M. Gaßner, son of Ida and Josef Gaßner, first studied mathematics at the East Bavarian Technical University in Regensburg . After completing the program as a mathematician, he then studied physics at the Ludwig-Maximilians University in Munich , where he was in 2008 in theoretical astrophysics with the issue of calculations for primordial nucleosynthesis Dr. rer. nat. PhD.

Gassner in the capacity of is free employee as a basic researcher at the University Observatory in Munich. He is also a lecturer in astronomy and cosmology at the University of Applied Sciences in his hometown Landshut.

In addition to his research at the Munich University Observatory, Gaßner tries to convey complex relationships to a wide audience in his publications and through popular science lectures at universities, grammar schools and adult education centers. A great success in this regard was his book Big Bang, Universe and Life - from Nothing to This Morning , written together with Harald Lesch in 2012 , which has now appeared in its fourth edition, has its own website and its own channel on YouTube . Since June 2016, Big Bang, Universe and Life has also been broadcast on Rocket Beans TV .

On the occasion of his 50th birthday, the television education channel ARD-alpha broadcast a three-quarter-hour program about Gaßner and his work on May 20, 2016 in prime time. He was also interviewed extensively as part of the SWR1 People program.

Voluntary work

Together with his parents, Josef M. Gaßner is a founding member of an aid organization for India: “Step by Step - Help with System e. V. "
