Roland Lowinger

Roland Lowinger (born August 9, 1948 in Konstanz ) is a German karateka , holder of the 9th Dan and sports functionary.

Career

Lowinger began karate in 1968. He improved his fighting technique during a year and a half stay with Ken Wittstock in South Africa. In the following years he won numerous national and international championships, such as the Federal Championships 1974, the German Championships 1979 Kumite, the German Shotokan Cup Kumite 1981 and 1984. At the European Championship 1973 Kumite Team he came second.

At an early age he began to work as a functionary for the development of karate. From 1978 he worked as a Bavarian state sports warden and as a state coach. Within the German Karate Association , he was a federal style direction officer until 2001. Since 1988 he has been the first chairman of the Swabian district in the Bavarian Karate Association . He played a key role in the construction of the state performance center in Kempten. He has also been a referee at international tournaments since 1978. He was a member of the European Referee Commission for three years. He is currently active as a federal referee for the German Karate Association.

On the occasion of the Karate World Championship in Paris 2012, Roland Lowinger was appointed provisionally Chairman of the WKF Referee Commission by WKF President Antonio Espinos. On January 19, 2013, he was confirmed by the Executive Committee of the WKF ( World Karate Federation ) as the new chief referee. In addition, Roland Lowinger was appointed Chairman of the WKF Sports Commission and deputy of the Referee Commission of the European Karate Federation (EKF). The 9th Dan was awarded to him on November 25, 2018 at the Federal Assembly of the DKV.
