The Bavarian Karate Bund eV (BKB), based in Munich, is a professional association for karate in Bavaria . He is a member of the Bavarian State Sports Association and the German Karate Association .

history

Japanese karate has been present in Germany since 1961, at that time in the form of the "German Karate Federation" DKB, the oldest German professional association. Its Bavarian offshoot was the "Bavarian Karate Association" (BKV).

In order to be accepted into the Bavarian State Sports Association, the "Bavarian Karate Bund" (BKB) was founded on May 1st, 1982. Karlheinz Braun negotiated for the BKV, prominent representatives of the BKU at that time were Peter Langer, Hilmar Fuchs, Sepp Schäfer and Peter Förster. Karlheinz Braun from Nuremberg, then still a student, became the founding president of the BKB.

The BKB was accepted as a full member of the BLSV on March 1, 1983. On July 1st there were 84 clubs with about 7000 karateka. This gave free access to the offers of the BLSV such as training for technical instructors, funding, the official character of the championships, etc.

In March 1988 the state performance center (LLZ) was built in Kempten (Allgäu) . The LLZ was 85% financed by the state, the city of Kempten (Allgäu) and the Karate Dojo Kempten.

The Oberhaching sports school has been used for management courses since 1994 .

The main focus of work was the preparation and implementation of the Karate World Championship 2000 in the Olympic Hall in Munich . Up until then, the 2000 World Cup was the largest karate event ever held worldwide.

In 2009 the first official open Para-Karate championship was held in Sonthofen, which was supposed to give people with disabilities access to competitive karate . The following tournament in Hemhofen in 2010 was u. a. visited by Thomas Bach , then DOSB chairman and now IOC chairman. This tournament is seen in the World Karate Federation as the initial spark for global recognition of Para-Karate.

In 2017, the "World Karate Day" was held in the Werner-von-Linde-Halle of the Olympic site in Munich as a promotion event for the inclusion of karate in the program of the Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020 . With seminars for over 2000 athletes from 16 nations and a match between the German national team and the World Karate Federation's selection, it was the largest popular sports event in the history of the WKF.

Within the DKV, the BKB reported a total of almost 20,000 members.
