Ilya Smorguner

Ilja Smorguner (born June 24, 1984 in Leningrad , Russia ) is a German karateka . He is a six-time German champion and vice- world champion in the discipline of individual kata men.

Life

Ilya Smorguner grew up with his three years younger sister in Leningrad . At the age of seven he came to a Taekwondo school and stayed with this martial art until he migrated to Germany ( Schwerin ) in 1996. In 1998, Smorguner switched to karate in the Shōtōkan association Tokugawa Schwerin, which was organized in SKVD Germany. He became more and more interested in the Kata discipline, joined the DKV in 2004 and became a member of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania regional squad . The passion for the Shitō-Ryū style and the move to Mainz in 2006 for professional reasons led to the change to the Budokan Kaiserslautern eV Since then, Ilja has been a member of the Rhineland-Palatinate regional squad and also trained in the Karate Dōjō Mainz Bretzenheim eV In 2012, he moved for professional reasons to Munich . Smorguner was accepted into the national squad after a second place at the German Championship 2012 in Erfurt . In 2013 he moved to the Shugokan Karate Club in Munich, was German champion and was nominated as a member of the national team for the European championship by national coach Efthimios Karamitsos .

Meanwhile, Smorguner is a five-time German champion and runner-up world champion in the men's individual kata category. He is a software developer by profession .

Smorguner celebrated his greatest success so far in 2014 at the WKF Karate World Championship in Bremen . Here, behind the Japanese Ryo Kiyuna, he was runner-up in the men's individual kata category.
