Rolf Denker

Rolf Denker (born June 20, 1932 in Bielefeld , † November 23, 1999 in Tübingen ) was a German philosopher and psychoanalyst . He was a professor of philosophy and psychoanalytic theory at the Philosophical Faculty of the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen .

Live and act

After training as a publishing bookseller, Denker studied philosophy, German, art history, sociology and psychoanalysis in Bonn and Tübingen. He was a student of Walter Schulz and Ernst Bloch and did his doctorate on the art philosophy of Kant and Goethe. After his habilitation, he was academic advisor and professor of philosophy and psychoanalytic theory at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Tübingen until 1992. There he developed seminars and colloquia on the borderline between philosophical and medical anthropology with excursions into the history of philosophy and psychoanalysis. He then headed a private Anna Freud Institute for applied psychoanalysis and practical philosophy in Tübingen.

The aim of his anthropological considerations was to explore the economic, political and social-psychological conditions for a society of responsible individuals. They would have to be capable of character and ready for an argumentative discussion in a critical dialogue. Work and play as well as artistic and scientific activities should be designed and able to work in such a way that the development of pathological personalities with neurotic, authoritarian, narcissistic-aggressive or psychotic disorders, which is typical for bourgeois society, can be reduced.
