Born in Bremen, Rolf Kaemmer came to Hannover 96 in 1972 through the Leher Turnerschaft and Bremerhaven 93 (Regionalliga) . Here the defensive player was a regular player most of the time and experienced a relegation with Hanover (1974) and a direct rise again. In 1976 he moved to the OSC Bremerhaven in the major league. This was followed by promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga and from then on until 1981 every year, alternating between relegation and promotion. In 1981 he was coach of the amateur club Geestemünder SC , where he was initially also active as a player.
