Rolf Meyer (born May 7, 1951 in Liebenau ; † December 17, 2014 ) was a German politician ( SPD ) and a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament .

Personal

After graduating from high school in 1970, Meyer was a contract soldier in Ramstein from 1970 to 1972 . He then studied geography and political science in Hanover. After his legal clerkship, he was a teacher at the Uetze high school from 1981 until his election to the state parliament .

Meyer was married and had three children. He died in December 2014 at the age of 63 after a brief serious illness.

Meyer had been a member of the SPD since 1970 . Until his death he was chairman of the SPD sub-district of Celle.

Since 1986 he has been a councilor and 2nd deputy mayor of the Langlingen community . In 1991 he also became councilor of the Flotwedel joint community and chairman of the local SPD parliamentary group. He was also a member of the district council of the district of Celle since 1996 .

Meyer was a member of the Lower Saxony state parliament from 2003 to 2013. There he was a member of the Committee for Rural Areas, Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection and the Committee for Environment and Climate Protection. He was also a member of the Study Commission on Demographic Change, which the State Parliament set up from 2006 to July 2007. Meyer was spokesman for his group for energy policy.
