biography
Bardewisch came from a wealthy noble family in the county of Diepholz . He joined the Teutonic Order and rose to higher offices. He was Komtur in Pernau in Livonia (now Estonia ). In 1524 he became Commander of the then still important Commandery of the Teutonic Order in Bremen . He also used his own means to renovate the Commandery's buildings. In the social uprising of the 104 men from the Bremen middle class, it was also about the usage and property rights of the citizens' pasture of Bremen in Bremen. The Komtur was accused of having wrongly appropriated land on the Bürgerweide. On May 10, 1531 the commander and four of his servants were murdered and the commandery sacked. The uprising was put down in 1532 by the Bremen council .
