Rollie Free

Roland "Rollie" Free (born November 11, 1900 in Chicago , † October 11, 1984 in Los Angeles ) was an American motorcycle racer.

He was best known for his then American motorcycle speed record in 1948 on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah . He reached a speed of 150.313 miles per hour, lying flat on a Vincent only in his swimsuit . The speed was comparable to the motorcycle world record of 150.65 mph, which had been achieved in Ireland in 1930, but has since been exceeded outside the United States.

Rollie Free was posthumously inducted into the Motorcycle Hall of Fame , founded in 1990 .
