The engine is designed as a two-shaft engine, with a two-stage low - pressure turbine driving the output shaft and a two-stage high-pressure turbine driving a three-stage high-pressure compressor and also a single-stage centrifugal high-pressure compressor. The newer versions are equipped with a two-channel FADEC system.

history

The first order was placed in 1992 by the Royal Navy , in which it is used as a drive in 44 EH101 Merlin HM1s from 1998 . In the meantime, more than 700 RTM322s have been delivered (as of 2006).

On April 23, 2013, Rolls-Royce announced that it would withdraw from the RRTM joint venture. The 50% stake will be bought by Turbomeca. The preliminary contract was signed on April 22nd.
