Roman Bengez

Roman Bengez (born February 22, 1964 , † July 2, 2013 ) was a Yugoslav - Slovenian football player and coach.

Athletic career

Bengez played for NK Olimpija Ljubljana in the 1st Yugoslav League in the early 1980s before relegating in 1984. After a year for the club in the second division of Yugoslavia, he moved to local rivals Železničar Ljubljana , for whom he was active until his retirement in 1992. In his last season he played for another year in the Slovenska Nogometna Liga , the top division of the meanwhile independent Slovenia.

Bengez later moved to the coaching bench. In 2003 he took over Olimpija Ljubljana, with whom he was eliminated from the competition after a 3-0 away defeat in the first round despite a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in the first leg of the 2003/04 UEFA Cup . He later worked as an assistant coach and head coach at his second club, which has now started as NK Ljubljana.

Bengez passed away in July 2013 at the age of 49.
