Roman Olegowitsch Penkow

Roman Olegovich Penkow ( Russian Роман Олегович Пеньков * 17th November 1976 in Kirovohrad , Ukrainian SSR ) is a Russian music producer and remixer. He gained fame primarily through his work under the pseudonym DJ Ram . Penkow specializes in alternative , electronic music , electronica and synthpop , and claims to have produced more than 100 remixes between 2001 and 2011.

Career

In 1994 Penkow graduated from college number 10 in Kursk with an educational focus on physics and mathematics . In the same year he began studying physics and computer science, which he successfully completed in 2000. Under the pseudonym DJ Ram, he began a professional remixer career in Moscow in 1997 . Penkow distinguished himself particularly in handling modern DJ equipment, whereby he was able to fall back on the knowledge he had learned during his studies. Also in 1997 he released his first album entitled "РЭМЕСЛО" ( REMJESLO ). He also created remixes for well-known Russian bands such as 7B , Mumi Troll and tATu. For his remix version of the song Ja soschla s uma , a remix video was produced from scenes from the original clip. In autumn 2001, Synthphony 2001: Russian Strike was released on the Synthphony Records label, his second album. After the release of the remix album, Penkow led the international project Virtual Server, which brought together artists from all over the world, including Germany , Canada , Australia , Switzerland and the USA . Penkow composed and wrote the songs, which were then passed on by the project team to the various bands, which then recorded them. The resulting songs were released in September 2002 on the album Installed on the US record label A Different Drum . Wilde Awake was released as a single on April 14 , Fallen on July 23 . In 2006 Penkov moved to Moscow. On March 6, 2007, another album of the project was released on the same label with Setup , which contains 13 songs by 13 different artists.
