Romanus (Rouen)
Romanus , French Saint Romain († October 23, 640 ) is a saint of the Roman Catholic Church .
He was Bishop of Rouen from 626 until his death in 640 . A legend according to which he should with the assistance of an executed offender the dragon Gargouille killed, the river Seine lived. This is the origin of the Privilège de St. Romain , a custom of releasing a prisoner every year in his memory.
Romanus is also venerated as the patron saint of merchants . His patronage festival is on the day of his death, October 23rd.
