Romeu Tuma (born October 4, 1931 in São Paulo , Brazil , † October 26, 2010 in São Paulo) was a Brazilian politician and former director of the Federal Police .
Tuma was of Syrian-Lebanese origin. At first he belonged to liberal parties, but last ran for the Partido Trabalhista Brasileiro (PTB).
Outside of Brazil, he became known in the 1980s for his involvement in the discovery of the remains of Josef Mengele or the investigation into the Mafioso Tommaso Buscetta .
From February 1, 1995 to October 26, 2010, he was re-elected Senator for his home state of São Paulo .
