Romney Island is an island in the River Thames at Romney Lock at Windsor in Berkshire , England . The elongated island is overgrown with bushes and trees.

The island has always been a popular fishing spot . Izaak Walton fished here. The island separates the access to the lock from the course of the river over the weir . There are plans to build a hydroelectric power station on the island . The plans were presented in a revised version in May 2008 after they were initially withdrawn in February 2008.
