Ronald Cueto Ruiz

Ronald Cueto Ruiz (born 1932 in Cumbria , † September 22, 2006 in Segovia ) was a Spanish-British historian, Romanist and Hispanist .

Life

Cueto was born to Spanish parents in Cumbria, England. He attended Workington Grammar School and studied at St Catharine's College (Cambridge) (graduated in 1954). Then he was a high school teacher in Santander . From 1959 he worked on a dissertation and received his doctorate in 1962 with the Latin Americanist Manuel Ballesteros Gaibrois (1911–2002) at the Complutense University in Madrid.

Cueto went back to England and taught at Bromsgrove School . In 1966 he went to Leeds University and founded the Spanish Department at Trinity and All Saints College. From 1974 he was a lecturer and from 1986 to 1997 a reader in Spanish history.
