Ronald Lamola

Ronald Lamola is a South African politician and former incumbent president of the ANC Youth League (ANCYL). In 2019, Ramaphosa II was appointed Minister of Justice and Correctional Services to the cabinet .

Lamola is a lawyer . He joined the ANCYL at the age of 14, was provincial chairman of the South African Students Congres (SASCO) and in 2008/2009 General Secretary of the Young Communist League . In 2009 he was elected regional secretary of ANCYL in Mpumalanga and at the same time spokesman for the influential Prime Minister of Mpumalanga, David Dabede Mabuza , who is a friend of Jacob Zuma .

In 2011, Lamola was elected to the ANCYL National Executive Committee and became Vice-Chairman. He has been acting chairman since Julius Malema was expelled from the African National Congress (ANC) in spring 2012 . As under the Malema presidency, there were sharp attacks against Zuma under Lamola; he called it a mistake if Kgalema Motlanthe did not become the next president of the ANC in December 2012, since only he could create and guarantee economic freedom.

In 2019, Cyril Ramaphosa appointed him to his cabinet as Minister of Justice and Prison .
