Ronald Shiner

Ronald Alfred Shiner (born June 8, 1903 in London , Great Britain ; † June 29, 1966 there ) was a British actor and stage director who made a name for himself as a character comedian in film.

Life

Ronald Alfred Shiner attended Cathcart College and St. Aloysius in his hometown of London. From 1920 to 1922 he served in the Northwest Mounted Police and from 1924 to 1927 in the Royal Corps of Signal.

In 1928 he switched to the stage and performed at the Hippodrome Theater in London-Margate in the play Dr. Syn for the first time. From 1929 to 1931 Shiner tried several times as a director, u. a. on Down Our Street, The Way to Treat a Woman and Duke of York’s . Between 1931 and 1934 he could be seen at the Whitehall Theater and in 1935 at the Cambridge Theater. It was at this time that Ronald Shiner took his first steps in film; initially with tiny supporting roles. Although drafted during World War II - he spoke u. a. in broadcasts for British troops at the Mediterranean base of Malta- Shiner was extremely active in the film industry in the first half of the 1940s. In 1943 he also resumed his long-neglected theater activity (play Something in the Air ). From 1945 to 1950 Shiner returned to the Whitehall Theater, then went to the Apollo Theater for three years (1950-1953) and finally appeared at the Adelphi Theater and the Coliseum Theater .

At the beginning of the 50s he was offered leading film roles for the first time. Shiner has starred in several B-comedies by directors Jack Raymond and John Paddy Carstairs . In 1952 he was considered the top earner among Great Britain's film actors, in 1953 and 1954 he was among the top ten earners. Occasionally Ronald Shiner could be seen in television films (e.g. Seagulls Over Sorrento ).
