Ronald Unterberger (* 1970 in Bad Ischl ) is an Austrian film director, producer and screenwriter.

Life

After studying architecture at the Vienna University of Technology , which he graduated from Will Alsop in 2003 with film set designs and a diploma film in which virtual backgrounds were combined with real film scenes using camera tracking, he attended the Vienna Film College from 2007 to 2010 with a major in directing. In 2011 he completed the Master School Screenwriting in Berlin , followed by the Kaskeline Film Academy in 2012, which he completed with the 30-minute film Revolution Cell. In 2014 he shot the medium-length film Maskenmärchen with a Berlin improv group , which is based on his short story of the same name. His first full-length feature film Veras Mantel premiered at festivals in Berlin and Tampa in 2017, received the Board of Directors Award in North Carolina in 2018, and was released on Prime Video on March 15, 2018 .

Regarding his architectural history: "Perhaps that is why concept, structure and space are fundamental components of his narratives, in which the characters usually move between group dynamics and individual values, and their psychological facets become political."

Ronald Unterberger has lived in Berlin since 2011.
