Origin and meaning

The name means "little seal ". It is derived from the Irish rón ( harbor seal, seal), combined with a diminutive final syllable.

The popularity of the name is due to Saint Ronan of Locronan , who was a traveling Irish bishop and became a hermit in Brittany. He died in Locronan in the Finistère department in Brittany in the 6th century .
